Very comfortable for our 60 lb Glen of Imaal Terrier. He typically and quickly chews up carpet mats, and most dog beds. For whatever reason, he's in love with this thing, and seems to "care" for it. When he comes in from outside and wants to stretch, dig his head into the surface, and scratch the surface with his strong paws, it's not yet torn anywhere. But that's likely because I tell him to stop as soon as he does it.The outer top surface of fabric is velvety soft.....not super thick and tough, so I'd imagine it's vulnerable to being snagged and torn by a dog's paw, if they were so inclined. I'm giving it only 3 stars for chew proof, because it's not thick enough or tough enough to survive him should he want to.However, despite some who feel the pad is thin....it's not. After time, it puffed out to 2" thick and he adores it. As for cleaning...I cannot yet rate this as it's not yet needed to be cleaned.Overall, one of the best dog bed/pad/rug things we've ever gotten him. I'd buy another if we needed to do so.
